Battlefield servers now in South Africa

Local servers improve the game-play experience and accessibility of Battlefield Play4Free and Heroes.

MWEB GameZone has announced a partnership with Multiplay, one of the top three game service providers in the world, to provide local servers for EA's popular free-to-play titles, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free.

This is the second time that MWEB has partnered to bring leading games to South Africa, following a Gameservers.com arrangement to host servers for 'Call of Duty: Black Ops'.

Desmond Kurz, MWEB's online gaming manager, says that South African players were previously only able to play on international servers. With the resultant high pings, this would have made for poor game-play in these shooter-based games.

"EA has taken some very cool games and made them available for free with Battlefield Heroes and Play4Free. MWEB GameZone's very excited about improving the game-play experience for these popular titles for local gamers, as well as making gaming more accessible to new players through the browser-based interfaces of these games."

As part of this partnership, public servers have now been deployed in MWEB's Cape Town datacenter. In the near future, fans of the game will also be able to rent their own local SA server from Multiplay for Battlefield Play4Free and Battlefield Heroes.

"We're very proud to undertake this venture with Multiplay who has built up significant experience in the server hosting field in their 15 years of operation," says Kurz.
